Production Details:

What if we declare ourselves first generation non-violent? THE LAND IS ALWAYS KNOWN is an experimental opera exploring the legacy of trauma by mythologizing one family's reckoning with its violent past. Using soaring music, and vividly constructed landscapes, the project aspires to be a new American folk tale, a map toward a different future, a story to help us reconfigure our troubled DNA.

THE LAND IS ALWAYS KNOWN began as collaboration between the Satori Group and musical duo The Bengsons. Drafts of the piece were presented in Spring of 2013 as part of On the Boards' Northwest New Works Festival and the Risk/Reward Festival in Portland, OR. THE LAND IS ALWAYS KNOWN is still in development under the direction of former Satori Group Artistic Director Caitlin Sullivan.
